DESCRIPTION: Founded in 2000, the Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society (AMHS) develops and promotes the cultural, social and educational heritage of the Italian regions Abruzzo and Molise and of Italy. AMHS works closely with other Italian American organizations in the Washington, D.C. area to promote unity and a common goal – preserving our Italian heritage. Each year, AMHS awards two $4,000 scholarships each year to university students for the upcoming academic year. To qualify, candidates must:

  • Be a member of the AMHS or have a parent, grandparent, or guardian with an active AMHS membership
  • Have a 3.5 GPA or above out of 4.0
  • Either reside or go to school within a 50 mile radius of Washington, D.C.
  • Major or a minor in Italian language or Italian Studies
  • Be a US Citizen or permanent resident alien
  • Not have won the AMHS scholarship in any prior year

DESCRIPTION: For over forty years the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation, through its Scholarship Fund, has awarded scholarships to deserving members of Alpha Phi Delta as well as their family members. Over sixty annual scholarships have been fully endowed by individual brothers, their family members, alumni groups and ladies auxiliaries. Scholarships for all levels of higher education ranging from $500 to $5,000 are announced each August at the Annual APD Convention. To qualify, candidates must:

DESCRIPTION: The American Italian Cultural Society (AICS) is a non-profit organization established in 1988 in the city of Crest Hill, Illinois. The AICS organization is dedicated to preserving Italian cultural and carrying on traditions to today’s generation. AICS annually offers a four-year scholarship to a graduating senior attending a participating high school in the Joliet/Will County area. DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1965, the American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit (ASILM) has a distinguished record as the national organization representing and bringing together individuals who have been decorated by the Republic of Italy and honored by decoration in a chivalric order for cultural, business, educational, judicial, government or charitable achievements. To qualify for the Leandro P. Rizzuto Scholarship, candidates must:

  • Have at least a parent or two grandparents or great grandparents of Italian ancestry
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be accepted or enrolled on a full-time basis in a U.S. accredited undergraduate college or university located in Italy.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4 (or the equivalent) and demonstrate academic excellence
  • Demonstrate community or civic interest and be of high moral character
  • Take steps to learn more about their Italian heritage
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Submit a complete application together with all supporting documentation by April 15, 2024

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: In addition to completing the PDF application questionnaire, candidates must submit the following accompanying documentation via email to adambrosio@dunnington.com on or before April 15, 2024:

  • Complete an application form provided by the Scholarship Committee
  • Provide high school or college transcript (must contain at least two full years of grades) and other academic information
  • Submit an essay regarding (i) why they would like to study at a U.S. accredited college or university located in Italy, and (ii) what it means to be Italian American and why it is important to maintain your cultural roots
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor with whom they have had regular contact
  • Submit a resume listing academic background, extracurricular activities, organization memberships, and awards
  • Submit the FAFSA Student Aid Summary
