The language classes are free and open to the public.
The year 2003 marks the 27th anniversary of the designation of October as Italian American Heritage Month by the President. The proclamation was made in 1976 by President Jimmy Carter.
According to the United States Census 2000, Washington DC has a population of 11,691 Italian Americans or 1.9 percent of the population.
