– The Center for American Studies in Rome Awards NIAF Vice Chair of Cultural Affairs –

(Washington, D.C. – December 13, 2018) – The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is honored to announce that The Center for American Studies awarded the Prize for American-Italian Relations (PAIR) to NIAF Board Vice Chair of Cultural Affairs Anita Bevacqua McBride today in Rome, Italy.

McBride is the Executive-in-Residence at the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in the School of Public Affairs at American University in Washington, D.C. and is a member of the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board with oversight of the US-Italy Fulbright program, a vital component of the US-bilateral relationship with Italy.

McBride said, “The ties between Italy and America are deep and abiding. I am honored to be receiving this award for holding our Italian culture so close to my heart and sharing my passion for Italy and America in everything I do.”

NIAF Board Co-Chairperson Gabriel A. Battista said, “We here at NIAF are proud of Anita’s contribution to building a stronger connection between American and Italian societies and cultures. We also would like to congratulate The Center for American Studies for constructing bridges between the United States and Italy for nearly 100 years and awarding its annual PAIR to recognize prominent figures who share this common vision.”

The PAIR celebrates American and Italian figures who play active roles in constructing cultural, professional, political or economic bridges between the United States and Italy.

NIAF Board Co-Chairperson Patricia de Stacy Harrison said, “Anita’s active role in fostering stronger bonds between our two countries is invaluable and admirable. We are pleased that The Center for American Studies has recognized her leadership.”

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. and his wife Martha-Ann Alito accepted the award on McBride’s behalf in the Palazzo Antici Mattei di Giove, from Gianni De Gennaro, chairman of the Center for American Studies and president of Leonardo Company—Finmeccanica.
