Hi, I’m Isabella DeLuca, and I want to share a bit about my family’s journey. My great-grandfather, Giovanni, came to Pittsburgh from Naples in the early 1900s. He worked in the steel mills, while my great-grandmother, Maria, opened a small bakery in Bloomfield. Their bakery became a staple in the neighborhood, and that’s where my parents, Antonio and I, grew up.
Antonio and I had a childhood filled with Italian traditions. I followed in my mother’s footsteps, perfecting my cooking skills, while Antonio worked at the steel mill. During the Great Depression, we all pitched in to keep the bakery going, serving meals to the community.
When World War II came, Antonio served in the Army, and I kept the bakery running. After the war, we expanded the business, and it became a beloved local spot. Today, my children run the bakery, and every Sunday, our family gathers there. The smell of fresh bread and pasta fills the air, and we celebrate our heritage and hard work with every meal.
This bakery isn’t just a business; it’s a symbol of our family’s journey and resilience.
