(WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 1, 2012) Ralph Izzo, Chairman, President and CEO of , will be honored at the National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF) 37th Anniversary Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. Izzo will receive the NIAF Special Achievement Award in Science and Technology on October 13, 2012, at the Washington Hilton. The black-tie event begins with a 6 p.m. reception followed by dinner and an awards ceremony.

Twelve-time MLB All-Star Mike Piazza will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies. Honorees joining Izzo include Geno Auriemma, Head Coach of the Gold Medal-winning USA Basketball Women’s National Team and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Connecticut; Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Audi of America; Giovanni Ferrero, Chief Executive Officer of the Ferrero Group; Letizia Moratti, president of Friends of San Patrignano; and Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, the oldest science academy in the world. During the evening Patricia de Stacy Harrison, a NIAF Vice Chair and President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, will present Marco Simeon, Director of Government and International Relations at RAI, with NIAF Special Recognition for International Media Relations.

Izzo’s background spans the worlds of science, public policy and business. He began his career as a research scientist at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, performing numerical simulations of fusion energy experiments, and served as an advisor to Senator Bill Bradley and New Jersey Governor Thomas H. Kean.

Izzo joined Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) in 1992, and has been elected to several executive positions within PSEG’s family of companies. In October 2006, he was named president and chief operating officer of PSEG, and a member of the board of directors. In April 2007, he was named chairman of the board.

Early in his career, Izzo published over 35 papers on magnetohydrodynamic modeling. He is listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who and is the recipient of national fellowships and awards, as well as numerous honorary degrees.

Izzo serves as chair of Rutgers University Board of Governors and serves on the boards of directors for the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, the New Jersey Utilities Association, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), and The Center for Energy Workforce Development.
