Italian American Congressional Delegation Summary of Italian Ancestry
(Year 2007-2009)

Six U.S. Senators and 24 U.S. Representatives of Italian ancestry are serving in the 110th United States Congress and are part of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, a bicameral, bipartisan group of legislators who trace their roots to Italy. The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has compiled the ancestry of the Delegation of which Representatives John L. Mica (R-FL) and William J. Pascrell serve as co-chairs.

The ancestors of six U.S. Senators emigrated from Italy to the U.S.

  • Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), (Tuscany)
  • Sen. Michael B. Enzi (R-WY), Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige)
  • Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), (Sicily)
  • Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-VT), Pordenone (Friuli-Venezia Giulia)
In the U.S. House of Representatives, the ancestors of the following Members came to America from the region of Campania in the southern part of Italy.

They include:
  • Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA), Avellino
  • Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Amalfi
  • Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA), Caserta
  • Rep. Mike Ferguson (R-NJ), Salerno
  • Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Naples
  • Rep. John Mica (R-FL), Roscigno
  • Rep. James L. Oberstar (D-MN), Naples
  • Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Naples
  • Rep. William J. Pascrell (D-NJ), Caserta

  • Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ), Florence (Tuscany)
  • Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Milan (Lombardy)
  • Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), Ronco all’Adige (Lombardy)
The ancestors of three Members of Congress are from Abruzzo, on the Adriatic Sea.

They include:
  • Rep. Robert A. Brady (D-PA), city not known
  • Rep. Thomas G. Tancredo (R-CO), city not known
  • Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), Introdacqua
The region of Basilicata is represented by one Member of Congress, Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Potenza.

The families of four Members of Congress emigrated from the region of Calabria, south of Campania.

They are:
