ANNOUNCES YEAR 2001 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

900,000 in Scholarship & Grants Available**
DC- January 29, 2001) The National Italian American
Foundation (NIAF) will award up to $900,000 in scholarships and
grants to outstanding students in the Summer 2001 for use in the
academic year 2001-2002.
Scholarship Program awards scholarships of $5,000 each, and are
based on academic merit . The program has two applicant
categories: Italian American students in all areas of academic
study; and students from all ethnic backgrounds majoring or
minoring in Italian language, Italian studies or a related
applying must meet the following criteria: attend an accredited
institution of higher education during the Fall 2001, hold a
grade-point average of at least "3.25" or its
equivalent and be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien.
Scholarship recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship
support and can reapply in subsequent years.
The NIAF has
awarded nearly $4 million in scholarship and grants across the
country over the past 25 years. Last year, 143 students received
NIAF scholarships totaling an estimated $1 million while 15
research projects were also funded by the Foundation.

. Applications can only be submitted on-line. Application
deadline: April 30, 2001. Transcripts by mail must be
posted marked by April 30, 2001. NIAF scholarship
winners will be announced in June 2001.
