Special Guests and Celebrities!
Add to our growing list of special guests and celebrities Washington Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo, the mastermind behind one of Major League Baseball’s most improved and up-and-coming teams! Go Nats! Just wait ‘till next Spring! And, sports fans, don’t forget, MLB All-Star Mike Piazza will be there, too.

For film buffs, here’s your chance to say hello to two of the most respected industry veterans. NIAF honoree Frank Mancuso, former chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio, oversaw the return of the James Bond franchise files such as “Golden Eye,” “Tomorrow Never Dies” and “The World is Not Enough,” and brought us the unforgettable “Indiana Jones” films. Presenting Mr. Mancuso will be Robert Pisano, chairman for the Motion Picture and Television Fund and former president Motion Picture Association of America.

And, then there’s Maria Bartiromo. She’s been called “The Money Honey,” “The Queen Bee of the Financial News Hive” and “The Most Famous Business Journalist in The World!” But what this Emmy-Award-winning financial journalist will be at NIAF’s 36th Anniversary Gala is the Mistress of Ceremonies! The first journalist to report live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on a daily basis, she’s the anchor of CNBC’s "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo" and anchor and managing editor of the nationally syndicated "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo," recently rated the most watched financial news program in America. Even Joey Ramone of the punk-rock band The Ramones wrote a song about her. So come to the Gala and enjoy an evening with "Sophia Loren of Financial Journalism.” Or as Joey put it musically, “She's really out of sight! Maria Bartiromo!”

Speaking of powerful women, did you know that honoree Emma Marcegaglia is considered one of Italy’s “Most Powerful Women” and was nicknamed “Steel Lady” in a headline in The Economist. Or that honoree Ohio State Senator Capri Cafaro’s meteoric rise in Ohio’s legislature and politics has been breathtaking! And, if you haven’t seen Giuliana DePandi-Rancic on television lately, from “E! News” and her Style Network show “Giuliana and Bill” to cohosting the “Miss USA 2011” contest, well, you haven’t been watching TV. But you can meet her at the Gala instead.

While Bud Bundy can’t make it to the Gala, David Faustino, the actor and rap artist who played him in the sitcom “Married with Children,” will be on hand. And so will many others, including Frankie Avalon, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Dana Brunetti, Fabio, Nasser Kazeminy, Deana Martin, Joe Pantoliano, David I. Saperstein, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, president of the Province of Salerno and president of the Defense Committee at the Chamber of Deputies in Italy. Both President Barack Obama and President of Italy Hon. Giorgio Napolitano have been invited.

Special Guest Paul David Pope to Speak at the Anniversary Gala
Paul David Pope, a third generation Italian American businessman and philanthropist, will bring his remarkable family story—a tale of rags-to-riches success, political and boardroom intrigue, and unprecedented publishing infamy—as a special guest at this year's NIAF 36th Anniversary Awards Gala in Washington, D.C., on October 29th.

Pope's grandfather, Generoso Pope Sr., left Italy at 15. He worked his way up from the sand pits of Long Island to become a construction magnate and New York City kingmaker. He left his deathbed blessing his youngest son, Gene, to lead the family business—a decision that would rend the family to pieces and ultimately force Gene out on his own. Gene would, in the end, found the National Enquirer—and in the process create the modern tabloid media world of today.

Like his father and grandfather before him, Paul Pope has forged his own identity in the world, and much of that identity has to do with his Italian American heritage. As head of Pope Entertainment Group, he was chief sponsor of the New York Historical Society's exhibit, "The Italians of New York: Five Centuries of Struggle and Achievement." He's also received awards from the Consul General of Italy in New York, the Italian Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New York, and the Order Sons of Italy in America. Drawing upon his family's rich heritage and his own unique personal experiences, Pope will be a compelling element in this year's Gala celebration.
