Deadline Alert: NIAF Scholarships and Voyage of Discovery
Stop procrastinating. Deadlines are approaching. NIAF will make 30 scholarships available to students for the 2013-2014 academic year, and its Voyage of Discovery program will take about 20 U.S. students on an expense-paid trip to Italy this summer.

NIAF Voyage of Discovery applications are available online at www.niaf.org/voyageofdiscovery. Deadline to apply is Jan. 31, 2013.

NIAF scholarship applications are available online at www.niaf.org/scholarships. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2013.

NOIAW to Honor Patricia de Stacy Harrison
The National Organization of Italian American Women will honor NIAF Vice Chairwoman Patricia de Stacy Harrison, president and CEO Corporation for Public Broadcasting, at its annual “Three Wise Women” Epiphany Celebration, on Jan. 23, 2013. Gannett Company President and CEO Gracia C. Martore and sculptor Mirella Monti Belshé will also be honored. Tickets: $115. The Italian Embassy of Washington, D.C., has announced that 28 scholarships to study in Italy are available for high school students who have taken AP Italian. This initiative promotes Italian language in the United States and is supported by Eduitalia, an association of qualified schools and universities that offers courses for foreign students in Italy. Louisiana American Italian Sports Hall of Fame
The American Italian Renaissance Foundation will be holding its 28th Annual Louisiana American Italian Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in New Orleans. The fundraising banquet will honor and celebrate contributions of Italian Americans in the sports, entertainment, medical and civic fields. Proceeds benefit the American Italian Cultural Center and scholarships for college-bound high school seniors excelling in academics and athletics. This year’s national honoree will be artistic gymnast and U.S. Olympian Alicia Sacramone. Italians in DC – 2013 Wine Tasting Seminars
The group Italians in DC is hosting a series of seven wine tasting seminars starting in January and continuing through May. Each seminar will focus on a different wine producing region of Italy and include tastings of some of that region’s finest wines along with a detailed profile of each wine, best food pairings and information about the region. The first seminar—Taste of Veneto—will take place Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Casa Italiana, 595 ½ 3rd St. NW, Washington, D.C. Subsequent seminars are scheduled for Feb. 4, Feb. 25, March 11, April 15, May 6 and May 20. Julian Gargiulo at Carnegie Hall
If you haven’t seen this personable, virtuoso pianist perform, here’s an opportunity. Italy's Top World Music Group’s U.S. Winter Tour
Kicking off an 11-city tour on Feb. 1, 2013, in New York City, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino returns to North America with its mesmerizing, intensive and reinvented Pizzica Taranta music and dance traditions of Southern Italy. Hailing from the Puglia region, the band is considered Italy's leading ensemble on the world music circuit. The tour opens at Pace University's Schimmel Center for the Arts on Feb. 1, followed by a performance on Feb 2 at the Artisphere Ballroom in Arlington, Va., and Feb. 3 at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. The band then travels to several New England dates, through the Midwest, and finally to the SXSW Music Festival, March 15-16, in Austin Texas. Michelangelo at The National Gallery
Inaugurating “2013—The Year of Italian Culture” in the United States, the National Gallery of Art, in Washington, D.C., is exhibiting the only presentation in the United States of the “David-Apollo” by Michelangelo, on loan from Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence. The “David-Apollo” will be on display in the West Building through March 3, 2013.

January Events at Casa Belvedere
The Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere, located on Staten Island, N.Y., offers a wide variety of educational and cultural events. This month, the Foundation is selling fundraising raffle tickets to Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, on New Orleans. Each $100 ticket donation is a chance to win two Super Bowl tickets, a four-night stay at a French Quarter hotel from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, and round-trip air accommodations for two. Uffizi Gallery’s “Angel” Exhibit U.S. Tour’s Last Stop
The inspirational exhibition “Offering of the Angels: Tapestries and Paintings from the Uffizi Gallery” has reached the final stop of its U.S. tour at Telfair Museum, Jepson Center for the Arts, in Savannah, Ga. The 43 paintings and two tapestries by Baroque and Renaissance masters, including Botticelli, Liberi and Tintoretto, will be on display through March 30, 2013.
