The National Italian American Foundation offers two locations for our G2L Programs:

    NIAF is offering a Graduates 2 Leaders Workshop that focuses on leadership skills. The workshop will take place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square on Tuesday, May 19 thfrom 11am – 5pm. The workshop will examine how successful Italian Americans’ personal experiences and leadership skills assisted them in achieving their professional goals. The guest speakers will give advice and motivate college students and young professionals from various career fields. The workshop will conclude with the NIAF East Coast Gala at 6:00 pm.

    Registration is $45.00 and includes the workshops and a ticket to the gala event. Recent college graduates and young professionals ages 21 and over are invited to participate. Space is limited to a first-come, first-served basis.

    NIAF Graduates to Leaders (G2L)
    The E.U. Jean Monnet International Summer Seminars
    in Siena & Rome, Italy
    (Graduate Credits awarded by the University of Siena)

    NIAF Jean Monnet Center of Excellence


    The University of Rome Tor Vergata and the University of Siena are partnering with the NIAF’s Graduates 2 Leaders Program to offer scholarships for the E.U. Jean Monnet International Summer Seminars in Siena and Rome, Italy. The selected Italian American students will receive a scholarship attend two seminars that are dedicated to the exploration of the changing nature of the European Union. The scholarships are for tuition only for two seminars lasting three weeks; chosen participants are responsible for their transportation, room and board while attending the seminars.

    Description of the Program:
    1. The E.U. Institutions, E.U. Decision Making and Lobbying in the E.U.
      Siena, 22-26 June 2009 (1 week) 4 ECTS / 2US credits equivalent
      This week-long seminar will focus on the complexities of the E.U. decision-making procedures. The course is made up of lectures and roundtables with E.U. officials, among other things.


    2. Assessing E.U. Domestic Integration & The E.U. Role in the World
      Rome, 30 June -10 July 2009 (2 weeks): 8 ECTS / 4US credit equivalent
      The first week will focus on the E.U. domestic policies, the effects of the elections of the new European Parliament, and the status of the Lisbon Treaty. The second week will be dedicated to the role of the E.U. in the world. Particular emphasis will be put on the changing nature of transatlantic relations, the impact of the new Obama Administration, the position of the E.U. in the Middle East peace process, and the rise of Asian countries as important actors in world affairs.
    Applicant Profile The Summer Seminars are for, but not limited to:
    • Graduate students (Masters and PhD);
    • Employees of Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations;
    • Interest Groups and Think Tanks;
    • Young professionals in Media and Journalism; and
    • Exceptionally skilled senior undergraduate students may be accepted.

    The seminars are highly selective and intensive, with 30 teaching hours each week. A pre-requisite for seminar 2 is proof of knowledge about the E.U.

    Past G2L Programs

    NIAF Graduates to Leaders (G2L) offers programs in Law and Communications


    Participants will receive an “insider’s” view into their vocation, taking part in sessions which will delve into important issues and key strategies helpful in maintaining their professional lives. In addition, the seminars will double as a networking forums among participants, providing the base of a professional support group of Italian Americans. The seminars will be all-expenses paid, including transportation, accommodations, meals and events. Participants will be selected through an application process.



    NIAF Graduates to Leaders (G2L) Workshop in Law
    Topics will include public interest and advocacy law, statutory and administrative law, criminal law and business law among others. Institutional visits will involve the Supreme Court, Congress, the Judicial Department and some of the top firms in Washington.

    NIAF Graduates to Leaders (G2L) Workshop in Communications

    The NIAF is grateful for the generous support of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund in support of the NIAF Graduates to Leaders in Communications Program.
    Topics will include the impact of mass media on public opinion, ethics in reporting, current issues in publishing, new media journalism, and personal stories from today's most influential media personalities.
